great lens
SEL135F18GM 20 October 2024 by guyhman (United Kingdom)
Ive had this lens for a year now, superb sharpness, quick focus, would highly recommend. Still my favourite lens. Although watch out for the barrel fitting on the lens hood as this broke and cost a couple of hundred pounds to fix and apparently isn't covered by warranty even though I am careful and everything wrapped after use!

It took me awhile to start using the 135 lense but now it remains on one of my cameras. I am still trying to master the lens.

I first knowing this lens by a photographer in Sydney 3 yrs ago. It was out of my budget by that time. However, it always in my dream list. I am a 85mm user but since I got this 135mm, 85 will no longer suit my idea. 135 current is still a good lens to buy for, maybe you are waiting the 2nd version, but if there is a good price near you, just get it. Worst to buy!!!

My new favorite lens!
SEL135F18GM 27 March 2024 (USA)
This lens is perfect in so many ways. Perfect sharpness, perfect focal length, perfect bokeh. Now, I know that’s a subjective statement, but of all my lenses it’s my first choice for so many subjects. From concerts to portrait work, low light situations to indoor sports including volleyball and basketball. I just love the end results.

Fast Autofocus for Sports
SEL135F18GM 07 December 2023 by Sports Pro (USA)
I use this as a pro sports photog and am extremely happy with the results. Perfect for tennis, basketball around half court away, and any low-light venue where you might want better light than a 70-200 2.8. Fast AF and super sharp. Exceptional bokeh on an A1.

Fantastic lens, one of the best
SEL135F18GM 25 August 2023 by Peterlons (United Kingdom)
Having used other 135mm lenses in the past I decided to move from my Zeiss Batis to this G master lens and I have to say it was worth it. Yes it’s larger and heavier but the F1.8 is so dreamy it’s just worth it. Difficult decision for some but for me personally it’s the right choice. If you’re wanting one of the best lenses Sony have ever made then this is the one. Just go for it and enjoy the results

Great lens with tack sharpness. Very fast focus and creates amazing results. Disappointed in the process of trying to keep the firmware updated. It continues to shut the update software down and asks me to restart the process.

SEL135F18GM 30 June 2023 by SueBee (USA)
I have been wanting to purchase this lens for over a year....I was finally able to do so ( it is pricey!! )...and I have to tell you....I absolutely LOVE it and it is worth every penny for its focusing ability, soft backgrounds and overall superior performance. This lens has taken over as my " go to " lens.

Misunderstood masterpiece
SEL135F18GM 20 January 2023 by Krassimir (Australia)
Very premium lens that's misunderstood by many users. It's often incorrectly compared to the 70 - 200 GM II. Firstly this is first and foremost a portrait lens, that means it requires you to find and know who or what your subject is in order to take beautiful pictures. It can work as a semi-telephoto by cropping to around 200 mm - it can get macro like photos too but it's not really suited for that. Prime lense means that you will have to move around and use your feet to get the right and correct shot, so thinking is a lot more important which prevents you from becoming lazy with just a zoom. Don't get me wrong the zoom has its place and if you need the inbetween focal lengths or each just get the GM II. This compared to the GM II is akin to optical magic being compared to versatility. I think this lens is optically perfect and incredibly pin sharp! The F1.8 also makes it very suitable for nightscape or cityscape photography. The weight might be a little heavy but the size is also shorter than 70 - 200 GM II, which if taken out might annoy the public around you. Also F1.8 is much better for low light than F2.8, big low light capability gap let's not ignore it. To conclude I've used the 135mm F1.8G for a short amount of time and Sony has been good to me, they've price matched really well! I don't ever want to sell this lens, I love it. Only thing I wish it had was optical stabilization which isn't there. You can hand hold the shots or use a tripod or gimbal. With the hand held shots you need to use camera inbody stabilization and it will work decent enough. With gimbal you need a really normal sized one not compact. Postscript - people compare this to the 85mm F1.4 GM, and that lens is slightly better under low light but honestly 1.8 is a proven enough low light aperture. The 135 mm is monumentally sharper than the 85mm 1.4 GM. You could also opt to get the 50mm F1.2 GM but that lens hasn't got great reach, although it makes really aesthetically beautiful pictures. 100mm F2.8 GM is not as good as low light nor does it have the nice reach of this lens. At the end it will really depend on your kit and what lenses you already have, will this particular one compliment your work? In my case hands down it's unquestionably the best lens I've owned and my favorite! It simply wows people when you show them even the most average of pictures, it's incredibly impressive!

Best portrait lens
SEL135F18GM 14 January 2023 by L prasad (United Kingdom)
The lens is well balanced, very sharp, contrasty very fast and accurate focussing, pleasing bokeh, very wide F for the focal length, on Sony A1 it is a perfect match for head and shoulder portrait lens. Superb cinematic video. with 50 1.2, two of best lenses I have bought.

What's all the fuss about
SEL135F18GM 21 March 2022 by minolta4me kevin (United Kingdom)
135mm has an historic interest for anyone who used to shoot film [allegedly the longest lens you could focus on a rangefinder] but has not interested me till I was invited to photograph dance practice. The low stage lighting used meant even my 70-200 GM f2.8 would struggle to freeze motion without resorting to even higher ISO. The lenses ability to separate the subject from the background, to make colours "pop" and its speed of Auto Focus will all be tested to the limits.
