When to replace old battery with a new one?
Please replace the old battery with a new one after a long period of use as the battery is a consumable electronic product with limited life.
The run-time of a new battery is about ten hours after it is fully charged. The usage time becomes six hours after a full charge when the battery has been used for a period of time
When the battery run-time can only last half the time of the above circumstance, please replace it with a new one.
How to extend the battery lifetime?
The lifetime of the battery can be prolonged as follows:

Do not leave the battery and the computer in a place with a high temperature.

If the computer is not to be used for a long time, please disconnect the power adapter.
Regarding the conservation of battery

Please remove the battery if the computer is not used for a month or longer. Do not fully charge the battery and put it in a cool, dry place.

How to perform a battery run-time testing?
The run-time of battery means how long it lasts after a full charge.
The run-time of battery stated in the product catalogue means the testing time when the computer is running in power saving mode.
The initial settings of the computer are different from the settings of power saving mode. The actual run-time of battery is shorter than the testing time.

How to check the surplus capacity of battery?
Users can check the surplus capacity of the battery as the images shown below. (In Windows Vista and XP)
In addition, Windows Vista shows the battery status by estimating from the current running status of the computer. Please wait for a while and confirm the time.
Note: Please pay attention to the surplus capacity of battery when running VAIO. On some models, the discharging rate may not appear.
About VAIO Power Management
Users can choose Best battery mode of VAIO or Ultimate battery mode of VAIO.
Compared with Best battery mode of VAIO, Ultimate battery mode of VAIO can save more power.
How to enable the power saving feature and how to configure the relevant settings in VAIO(Windows Vista)
1. Right-click the power icon in the taskbar and click Power Options.
2. Click Change plan settings
Note: The initial numerical value is VAIO Balance.
3. Click Change advanced power settings.
4. Click VAIO High performance or VAIO Power saver and then click OK.
How to enable the power saving feature and how to configure the relevant settings in VAIO(Windows XP)
1. Right-click the power icon in the taskbar and click Change power properties.
2. In Power Settings, click VAIO High performance or VAIO Power saver, and click OK.

For Windows Vista
The computer goes into Sleep mode when it is not being used for a predetermined period of time.
Sleepmode is a power saving mode. Click Start and click to set the computer into Sleep mode.
If the computer is left inactive for a long time, it will go into Hibernate mode.
Hibernate mode will cut off the power of the computer and save the current operation to the hard disk. Press Fn + F12 to set the computer into Hibernate mode.
For Windows XP
Standby mode replaces Sleep mode in Windows XP.
Click Shut Down in Start and click Stand by.
If the computer is left inactive for a preselected period of time, it will enter Hibernate mode.
Hibernate mode will cut off the power of the computer and save the current operation to hard disk. Press Fn + F12 to set the computer into Hibernate mode.
Note: To prolong the battery life, users can select Sleep or Stand By mode. If the computer is not to be used for a period of time, please select Hibernate. Otherwise shut down the computer.
