Why can't Windows Update cannot be carried out normally?

- A specific update program cannot be installed.
- The update programs that were already installed are shown.
- An error message appears when trying to install update programs.

Err Msg: Setup could not verify the integrity of the Update.inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on the computer.

Microsoft verified the symptom.

This symptom occurs when the log file stored to the folder of C:\Windows\System32\Catroot2 or the database is damaged.

Title: You Cannot Install Some Updates or Programs.

# Check the contents of the log file (Windows Update.log)
1. Click Start and then click Search.
2. Click All files and folders, in the All or Part of the file nametext box, enter Windows Update.log and click Search.
3. Double-click Windows Update.log that was searched.
4. View the log file using Notepad. Scroll the window to the bottom line.
* The bottom line shows the Windows Update executed most recently.
5. When Windows Update is completed successfully, the fourth item from the left margin will show Success. If some errors occur to Windows Update, Error will be shown.

If the fourth item shows Error, the rightmost item of the line will show an error code. If the error code reads 0x80070643, please peform either Method 1 or Method 2. If the error code is different, please contact Microsoft.

A. Method 1
Rename the Edb.log file and reinstall the update program.

Note: To carry out the following operation, the extension should be shown.
1. Click Start and then click My Computer.
2. Double-click Local Disk (C:) and then click Windows -> System32 -> Catroot2.
3. Right-click Edb.log and then click Rename.
4. Change the Edb.log file to any given name.
5. Close all opened windows, connect to the Internet and visit Microsoft Web page.
6. Click Yes and try Windows Update again.

B. Method 2
Rename the Catroot2 folder and reinstall the update program.
1. Click Start and then click My Computer.
2. Double-click Local Disk (C:) and then click Windows -> System32.
3. Right-click the Catroot2 folder and then click Rename.
4. Change the Catroot2 folder to any given name.
5. Close all opened windows, connect to the Internet and visit Microsoft Web page
6. Click Yes and try Windows Update again.
