Sony is offering a system software update for Digital Still Camera DSC-RX10M2.
Improvements:
In addition to SDXC card, the camera records XAVCS format video with SDHC card.
- When shooting movies in XAVC S format, it requires SD Speed Class10, or UHS Speed Class U1 or faster. (When recording in 100 Mbps or more, UHS Speed Class U3 is required.)
- When an SDHC memory card is used to record XAVC S movies over extended periods of time, the recorded movies will be divided into files of 4 GB. The divided files can be integrated into a single file using PlayMemories Home.
Benefits provided from previous updates includes:
- Improved a symptom to shift the focus on HFR recording.
How to check the System Software version
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.
- The System Software version is displayed. If your camera system software version is already Version 1.30, this update is not necessary.

Details
Important Notes:
- Please close all other application software before updating the system software.
- Prevent your computer from sleeping beforehand.
- Please do not choose "about This System Software Updater" from SystemSoftwareUpdater Menu especially while updating because it is reported that it may crash this updater software.
- When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20(sold separately).
- Do not remove the battery pack or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Do not connect to other apparatuses except your computer.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- Download the update file
Click on the file Update_DSCRX10M2V130.dmg to begin download. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended). - Start Software Updater
- Do not connect the camera yet at this point. Double-click Update_DSCRX10M2V130.dmg to start up Software Updater.
- Double-click the Update_DSCRX10M2V130 icon which appears on the Desktop.
- Double-click the Software Updater icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
- System Software Updater starts up.
- Check the USB connection mode
- Turn on the camera.
- According to the Software Updater instructions, select Menu > Setup > 3 > USB Connect Setting on the camera, then check if Mass Storage is selected.
If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.
- Connect the camera to the computer
Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand, then connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable. USB Mode appears on the LCD monitor of the camera.
If the computer cannot find the camera, the message "Could not find the camera for this update" appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
Sometimes when the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable, the message to encourage rebooting the computer may appear on the computer display. In this case, remove the battery pack or AC adaptor from the camera, reboot the computer, and follow the procedures from Start up System Software Updater. - Check if update is required
- After confirming the screens above, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.
Upgrade is required
- After confirming Current version is Ver.1.20 or earlier, click Next.
Note: If Current version is Ver. 1.30, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or connect the AC adaptor and then turn on the camera.
- After confirming the screens above, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.
- The camera automatically reset
The screen below appears.
Note: Loading icon may not be displayed depending on the OS version you are using. - Start the update
After automatically resetting, the below screen appears and the update starts. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).
Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading. - Complete the update
When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.
If recovering data caution is displayed after restarting, please wait until this caution goes out. There are no abnormalities.
- Check the System Software version
Follow the instruction to confirm the System Software version is Ver. 1.30.
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.
- The system software version is displayed.
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.
