VAIO has excessive fan noise.

    Please refer to the steps below to solve this issue.

    STEP 1:
    Verify FAN function and check whether air is flowing out from side or rear air vent.

    STEP 2:
    Set the Image Power Management to Silent Mode.

    1. Click ImageStart, click All Programs, and click VAIO Control Center.
    2. Under Power Management, click Power Options.
    3. Set the Thermal Control Strategy to Silent Mode.

    STEP 3:
    Install any available BIOS update via VAIO Update / VAIO Care.

    Using VAIO Update:

    1. Double-click Image(the VAIO Update icon) located in the Windows desktop notification area in the bottom-right of the desktop.
    2. When VAIO Update is launched for the first time, the initial settings window appears. Follow the instructions in the window.

    Using VAIO Care:

    1. Make sure the computer is powered on and press the ASISST button.
      Note: If your computer does not have an ASISST button on the top of the keyboard, click the ImageStart button and then click All Programs.
    2. In the All Programs menu, click the VAIO Care folder and then click VAIO Care.
    3. In the VAIO Care application click VAIO Software.
    4. Click VAIO Update.
    5. Follow the instructions in the window.

    STEP 4:
    Install the latest updates on your computer with the software applications:
    • Windows Update
    • VAIO Update

    STEP 5:
    Run VAIO Diagnostics.

    1. In the All Programs menu, click the VAIO Care folder and then click VAIO Care.
    2. In the VAIO Care application click Advanced Tools.
    3. Click Diagnostics.

    4. Choose the desired test. (Example: Hard drive, memory, etc.)
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

    STEP 6:
    Plug in headphones to help verify if noise is coming from HDD, cooling FAN or built-in speakers.

    STEP 7:
    Reboot VAIO and listen for HDD noise. SSD does not produce any noise.
