How to install or reinstall the VAIO Messenger software in Windows 8 and 8.1.

Follow these instructions to perform the necessary steps to completely uninstall the VAIO Messenger software and all the related services, files and folders to the state prior to the original installation of that software. Once that is complete, if you wish to reinstall the VAIO Messenger software, you will first need to completely uninstall the SQL Express/SQL Compact software, and then download and install the newest version of the VAIO Messenger software.

IMPORTANT: Before beginning this procedure it will be necessary to configure the operating system  to show all files and folders.

Uninstall of the VAIO Messenger software:

1. Press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click Control Panel.
   

   NOTES: Because the Control Panel is a traditional Windows Desktop application, if you were not already there, the interface will change to the Desktop and the Control Panel window will open.

2. In the Control Panel window, click Programs and Features.
3. In the Programs and Features window, click to select the Oasis2service, then click Uninstall.

   NOTES:

   • If at any time during this process you are prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password, or click Yes.
   • If at any time during this process a Are you sure prompt appears, click Yes.
4. Once the Oasis2service uninstall is complete, click to select VAIO Messenger from the list and again click Uninstall.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Once the computer has completely restarted, click Start and then click Computer.
7. Double-click Local disk (C:).
8. Under Local disk (C:), double-click the Program Files (x86) folder for 64-bit systems, or the Program Files folder
   for 32-bit systems.
9. In the Program Files/Program Files (x86) folder, if there is a DDNi folder present, click to select that folder and then press the Delete key on the keyboard.
10. Return to the Local disk (C:) folder and double-click the Programdata folder.
11. In the Programdata folder, if there is a DDNi folder present, click to select that folder and then press the Delete key on the keyboard.

The uninstall of the VAIO Messenger software is now complete.

Uninstall of the SQL Express/SQL Compact software:

1. Press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel window, click Programs and Features.
3. In the Programs and Features window, click to select the SQL Express or SQL Compact, and then click Uninstall.

   NOTES:

   • If at any time during this process you are prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password, or click Yes.
   • If at any time during this process a Are you sure prompt appears, click Yes.
4. Once the uninstall process is complete, restart the computer.

The uninstall of the SQL Server Express or SQL Compact software is now complete.

Installation of the VAIO Messenger software:

Follow these steps to install (or reinstall) the VAIO Messenger software and again receive messages from Sony, including support information, offers and alerts.

1. Open an Internet Browser and go to this location to get the VAIO Messenger installer: https://ddni.o.miisolutions.net/VAIO_Messenger_Setup_2.0.382.0.zip
2. At the Save As dialog box, click the SAVE option, select the Desktop as a location in which to save the installer file, and then click the SAVE button.

   NOTE: The installer file will begin to download to the Desktop (or other location specified). The duration of the download will depend upon the Internet connection speed, but should be brief as the file is only about 7.5 MB.

3. Once the download is complete, click the CLOSE button.
4. Locate the installer file on the desktop (or the specified location) to which the installer was saved, right click on the folder icon and select Extract files.
5. Open the folder containing the extracted files and double-click the VAIO Messenger Setup file.

   NOTE: If prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password, or click Yes.

6. At the MS SQL Compact install screen, click NEXT.
7. At the VAIO Messenger install screen, click NEXT.
8. At VAIO Messenger installation complete screen, click FINISH.
9. Restart the computer.

The VAIO Messenger software installation is now complete.
