VAIO shutdowns or powers off.
Please refer to the steps below to solve this issue.
STEP 1:
Check if AC adapter is free from any defect. Genuine Sony AC adapter/battery pack, LED adapter is lit, AC adapter gets warm when connected after 10 minutes.
STEP 2:
Verify if FAN is rotating from the exhaust.
STEP 3:
Reboot system to Safe Mode by pressing F8 function key once VAIO logo appears.
STEP 4:
Reboot VAIO and press F8 function key to run Windows System Restore.
STEP 5:
Install any available BIOS update via VAIO Update / VAIO Care.

STEP 6:
Run full Antivirus scan with the supported Antivirus application.
STEP 7:
Recover VAIO using VAIO Care, VAIO Recovery Centre, and VAIO Recovery CD.

STEP 1:

- Turn on the computer.
- On the Sony screen, press and hold the F8 key for 7-10 seconds.
- On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the Arrow keys to select Safe Mode.
- Press the Enter key.
STEP 4:
Reboot VAIO and press F8 function key to run Windows System Restore.
- Turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and then at the VAIO screen, press the F8 key.
- In the Advanced Boot Options screen, verify Repair Your Computer is selected and then press the Enter key.
- In the System Recovery Options window, click the Next button.
- Next to User name:, click the down arrow, and then click to select an account with Administrator rights.
- Next to Password:, type the appropriate password for the account selected and then click the OK button.
- In the Choose a recovery tool window, click to select the appropriate option below:
- Startup Repair will automatically resolve certain issues that are preventing the operating system from starting.
- System Restore will return your computer to a previous configuration of the operating system when it was working properly.
- Windows Complete PC Restore will restore your entire computer using a backup you created earlier using the Windows Backup and Restore Center.
- Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool will check your computer for memory hardware errors.
- Command Prompt will open a command prompt window that can be used by advanced users and technical support personnel to perform troubleshooting on the hard drive or the operating system.
- VAIO Recovery Center will launch the VAIO Recovery Center application.
STEP 5:
Install any available BIOS update via VAIO Update / VAIO Care.
Using VAIO Update:
- Double-click (the VAIO Update icon) located in the Windows desktop notification area in the bottom-right of the desktop.
- When VAIO Update is launched for the first time, the initial settings window appears. Follow the instructions in the window.
Using VAIO Care:
- Make sure the computer is powered on and press the ASISST button.
Note: If your computer does not have an ASISST button on the top of the keyboard, click the Start button and then click All Programs. - In the All Programs menu, click the VAIO Care folder and then click VAIO Care.
- In the VAIO Care application click VAIO Software.
- Click VAIO Update.
- Follow the instructions in the window.
STEP 6:
Run full Antivirus scan with the supported Antivirus application.
- Open and run the installed security or antivirus software.
- Update the security or antivirus software to include the latest definitions.
- Follow the security or antivirus software instructions to complete a full system scan.
STEP 7:
Recover VAIO using VAIO Care, VAIO Recovery Centre, and VAIO Recovery CD.

- Press ASSIST button when VAIO is already in shutdown mode. It will load the VAIO Care (Rescue Mode).
- Click on Start troubleshooting (recovery).
- Click on English (United States) on Language Selection
- Click on US on Keyboard Layout Selection.
- On the next window, click Troubleshoot.
- Under Troubleshoot tab, click VAIO Recovery.
- Choose the Operating System.
- On VAIO Rescue Mode, click on Select English and start VAIO Care (Rescue Mode).
- Click on Wizard.
- Click on Skip rescue.
- Click on Yes, I’m sure. and then click on Start recovery.
- Follow on-screen instructions.
Note: It will take approximately 3 hours to finish recovery.

- Close all open programs and turn off the computer.
- Disconnect all network connections.
- Disconnect all peripheral devices.
- Turn on the computer.
- When the VAIO screen is displayed, press the F10 key.
Notes:
- If an Edit Boot Options screen appears, press the Enter key.
- If a Windows Boot Manager screen appears, select VAIO Recovery Environment and then press the Enter key.
- If an Edit Boot Options screen appears, press the Enter key.
- In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program, click to select the desired option:
- VAIO Hardware Diagnostics - Computer problems related to hardware can be diagnosed using this option.
- Restore C: Drive - This option is used to recovery the entire C: drive partition to its original factory software configuration.
- Restore Complete System - This option is used to delete all hard drive partitions and recovery the system to its original factory software configuration.
- Rescue Data - This option can be used to detect and save data to an external hard drive or removable media prior to a system recovery.
- VAIO Hardware Diagnostics - Computer problems related to hardware can be diagnosed using this option.
