How to run the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool?

Running the Windows® Memory Diagnostic tool.

    The Windows® Memory Diagnostics Tool is a very useful utility for troubleshooting when the computer begins running slowly, freezes, hangs, displays a blue screen or reboot on its own, and can help detect problems with applications included on the computer, whether caused by memory errors or not. The utility tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on the computer and reports any errors that are found. Follow this procedure to run the Windows® Memory Diagnostics Tool.

    1. Click the Start button and in the Search programs and files or Start Search field, type memory, and then press the Enter key.
    NOTE: If prompted for an Administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password, click Continue or click Yes.

    2. In the Windows® Memory Diagnostics Tool window, click Restart now and check for problems (recommended).

    NOTE: The computer will automatically restart, the Windows® Memory Diagnostic Tool will run, and then the computer will automatically restart again.

    3. Review the error report that is displayed after logging into the operating system.
