How to reinstall display adapter (graphics card) driver in Windows XP?

    Reinstalling display adapter (Graphics Card) driver.
    Below are four methods to reinstall Display adapter (Graphics Card) driver.

    Note
    When performing the following steps, a restore disc may be required. If the recovery disc is supplied, please use it to perform the operations.
    If drivers are updated directly without using the recovery disc, the symptom may persist.
    Furthermore, after successfully installing driver using the recovery disc, the symptom may still persist due to other reasons, such as registry

    How to reinstall drivers after removing them?

    Below are the steps to uninstall ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200 driver.

    1. Confirm whether the display adapter driver runs properly on the computer.

    2. Click Start -> My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware to open Device Manager.

    3. Click + beside Display adapters, and then double-click ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200.

    4. Click Driver in ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200 Properties.


    5. Click Uninstall.


    6. Click OK in Confirm to remove device.


    7. Restart Windows.

      If New hardware is founddialog box appears when Windows starts, please refer to information following Steps 2 How to update drivers.

    1. Open Add or remove programs.

    2. Click the names of relevant drivers.
      Different computer models have different driver names displayed.

      Example: Add or remove programs may display the information shown as below.

      • S3Display
      • SiS VGA Utilities
      • Intel (R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver etc.


    3. Click Change/Remove.



    4. Click OK in Removing has completed.


    5. Restart Windows.








      How to update drivers?

    Note
    When performing the following steps, a recovery disc is required.
    If the recovery disc is supplied, please use it to perform the operations.
    If recovery disc is not supplied but there is back-up driver in the support folder, please perform the steps below.



    1. Device Manager dialog box displays.

    2. Click + beside Display adapters.


    3. Double-click ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200.


    4. ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200 Properties dialog box displays.
      Click Drivers, and then click Update drivers....



    5. Hardware Update Wizard dialog box displays.
      When Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software? dialog box appears, select No, not this time, and then click Next.
      The above prompt only appears under Windows XP Service Pack 2.


    6. Select Install from list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.


    7. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.


    8. When Select the device driver you want to install for the hardware appears, click Have Disk....


    9. When Install From Disk appears, click Browse... to specify the file.



      Remark

      Specify the folder with ***.inf files.

      For VAIO notebooks with recovery disc attached.

      1. Insert the disc into CD or DVD driver.

      2. Double-click My computer -> RECOVERYCD -> VAIO -> Drivers -> Video to specify the file.
      For the VAIO notebooks with no recovery disc attached.

      1. Double-click the relevant folders to specify the file.
        • My Computer -> Local Disk C -> VAIO -> Drivers -> Video
        • My Computer -> Local Disk C -> VAIO -> Drivers -> Video1
        • My Computer -> Local Disk C -> VAIO -> Drivers -> Video2
        • My Computer -> Local Disk C -> VAIO -> Drivers -> Video-Driver

        Note
        Different computer models have different back-up folders.
        For some models, the graphics card drivers are located in the subfolders Video1 or Video2 in Drivers.
        Please note that when updating drivers, the file to specify may be different.



    10. Return to Install From Disk dialog box, and then click OK.


    11. Click Next.



    12. When users start to install drivers, the installing dialog box appears.



    13. Click Finished in Completing the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box.



    14. Restart Windows.








    How to acquire the latest driver and perform update and installation?

    If the update drivers for the display adapter (Graphics Card) on the website is compatible with the VAIO notebook, please download and install them.








    How to run the installation programs (Setup.exe etc.)?

    The steps below are only for the adapter (Graphics Card) models: SiS***, ATI***, MOBILITY RADEON***, RADEON***, S3*** NVIDIA *** (* refers to letters or numbers) etc., and Setup.exe must be included in the recovery disc or support file.
    Regarding how to install display adapter (Graphics Card) drivers, please refer to the information below.

    For recovery disc

    1. Insert the recovery disc into CD or DVD driver.

    2. Double-click My computer -> RECOVERYCD -> VAIO -> Drivers -> Video -> Setup.exe.

    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the operations.
    For support folder

    1. Create a support folder.
      Regarding how to create a support folder, please refer to the information below.

    2. Run Setup.exe.

      Double-click Local Disk C-VAIO-Drivers-Video-Setup.exe.

      Note
      Different models of VAIO notebook have different contents in the Driver files.
