Checking the Device Manager for conflicts.

    Follow this procedure to check the Device Manager for conflicts.

    IMPORTANT:

    Printer ports are generally the LPT1 or USB port of the computer. Refer to the printer manufacturer for additional information regarding the interface used for a specific printer model.
    Some notebook docking stations or port replicators use the USB port for printing, even though a parallel port connector is used.
     

    1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel.
    2. In the Control Panel window, double-click the System icon.
    3. In the System Properties window, click the Device Manager tab.
    4. On the Device Manager tab, look for items displayed with a conflict.
    NOTE: Items with a conflict are usually displayed with a yellow exclamation point. 

    5. Click to select the device with the conflict.
    6. Right-click and select Disable.
    7. Restart the computer.
