Sony is offering a software update for Interchangeable E-Mount Lens "SEL35F14Z".

Improvements:

  • When using the camera continuously in MF setting at long period time, credibility of the focus position is improved.

Check the System software version

Note: This update is intended for SEL35F14Z lens that currenltly have a Lens System Software Version .01. If the camera system software version is already Version .02, this update is not required.

  1. Select Menu > Setup > Version on the camera.
  2. The Lens system software version is displayed.


    If you are using the QX series, start the Lens system software updater in the PC, You can check the Lens system software version by running the update.

    * Please close all other application software and prevent your computer from going into Sleep Mode.

    Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately). Detach the vertical grip when you update lens system software.

Preparation Notes:

  • When performing the Lens system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately). (for α Interchangeable - Lens Camera)
  • When performing the Lens system software update, please use the dedicated AC adaptor. (for Camera - Broadcast & Production)
  • Do not remove the battery pack or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • Please make sure to turn off the camera before attaching the lens to the camera to perform the Lens system software update.
    *Before you attach the lens to the camera, please make sure to turn off the camera.

Important Notice

  • This Lens system software update can be performed only when the lens is attached to the camera.
    *You cannot perform the Lens system software update using other camera.
  • Please make sure to attach the lens to the camera before performing the Lens system software update.
    *Before you attach the lens to the camera, please make sure to turn off the camera.
  • Notes: This Lens system software update is available in E-mount body.
    • Some models cannot be used for this update. (model list)
    • When using PXW-FS7M2, please follow the procedure according to the instruction manual of PXW-FS7M2.

Install

Details

Download the update file
Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

For Windows 8.1 / Windows 10 users:
Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.

Using Windows OS

  1. Start the Lens System Software Updater
    Close all currently running programs on your computer. Then double click Update_SEL35F14ZV2D.exe to start up Lens system software updater.

  2. Check the USB connection mode
    Turn on the camera. If the camera has already been turned on, turn it off and then turn it on again.
    According to the instruction on Lens System Software Updater, select Menu > Setup > USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected. (If you are using the QX series, this step is not necessary) If the mode other than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage.

  3. Connect the camera to the computer
    Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand and connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.

    Note:If an error message appears on the computer screen, please try the following methods.
    • Disconnect the USB cable from the camera, then reconnect the USB cable.
    • If there are another USB terminal with the computer, reconnect the USB cable to another USB terminal.
    Then confirm is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.

    Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.

    After confirming the above, click Next on Lens System Software Updater. the following screen appears on Lens system software Updater,


    and Follow computer instructions appears on the LCD screen of the camera.


    Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the Lens system software update is completed. It might takes a few minutes to screen changes depending on the camera model.

    When the message "The update is not available for your model." appears on the screen, check if the Lens System Software Updater is the correct file for the lens which is attached to the camera.
    *When the message above appears although the correct Lens System Software Updater is running, close the Lens System Software Updater, disconnect the USB cable, turn off the camera, and then go back to the step, Start up Lens System Software Updater

    When the message "Could not find the camera with the lens for this update mounted." appears on the screen, check if the camera is an updatable model, and if the camera is connected to the computer with USB cable.

  4. Check if the update is required
    Click Next, then the current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. Confirm Current version is Ver. 01, and click Next.


    Note: If the Current version is Ver. 02, the update is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or the AC adaptor and then turn on the power of the camera again.

  5. Starting the update
    Start transfer the lens system software. The progress bar appears while transferring data (approximately 5 seconds).


    Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

    When transferring data is completed, the following screen appears. Click Finish.


    The update process starts and the progress bar is displayed on the camera screen (approximately 30 seconds).

  6. Complete the update
    The update process is finished when the "Lens update complete." message is displayed on the camera screen. If you are using the QX series, the update process is finished when the screen of QX series disappears.


    Click on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.

    Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.

    Disconnect the USB cable.

    Note: Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or the AC adaptor and then turn on the power of the camera again.

  7. Check the Lens system software version
    Follow the instruction below to confirm the lens System software version is Ver. 02.
    Select Menu > Setup > Version on the camera. The Lens system software version is displayed.
