Why does an error message occur when using or charging the battery?

The battery cannot be used or charged and the following error message occurs:

Err Msg:
This battery may not be compatible with your computer. Sony strongly recommends that you use only genuine Sony(R) batteries with this computer. Any damage caused to your notebook from the use of third party batteries may void your warranty. Click OK to put your computer into Hibernate mode. When your computer hibernates, remove the battery, and insert a genuine Sony battery.

The following symptoms may also occur:
1. The battery LED indicator starts to blink very quickly.
2. The battery is being charged at all.
3. The computer cannot be turned on using non-genuine Sony battery.

Only genuine Sony batteries can be used with the VAIO computer. If non-genuine Sony batteries are used, the computer will not work properly and may cause safety dangers, including overheating, catching on fire, emitting fumes or disintegration of the battery packs.
