Important Notice
If you upgrade from version 1.08 or earlier, the settings will return to the factory defaults. After upgrading, please readjust the settings as necessary.
Download & Install
Preparation
- Before starting the update, do not let your computer fall asleep.
- The firmware update can take up to 3 minutes to complete.
- Please update the system software using one of the following PC web browsers:
- Safari
- Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Download the SONY_Z61_7EBD571D.zip file to a temporary or download directory on your computer.
- Please note this directory for reference.
- Unzip the downloaded zip file and rename it as: SONY_Z61.bin.
IMPORTANT: Do not use any other file name. If you do, this update will not install successfully.
Check the settings of the projector
- Turn on the projector and display the menu screen.
- Select Connection/Power → ECO.
- Verify that the menu settings are as follows:
- Standby Mode: Standard
- Direct power On: Off
Connect the projector and PC via a network
- Refer to the Connecting to a Computer via a Hub or Router section of the instruction manual and connect the projector to the network.
- Turn on the projector and display the menu screen.
- Check the IP address on the menu:
- Connection/Power → Network Setting → IP Address Setup.
Update the system software
- Set the projector to Standby Mode.
- Open the control screen of the projector with a web browser.
- Enter http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP address of the projector) in the address bar of the web browser.
Note: For details, refer to the Uses Network Features section of the product manual.
- Click the Setting tab.
- In the FW Upload section, click Select to choose the file you want to update.
- Select Apply.
- The update preparation will start. A message will appear after the preparation is complete. Once it's done, click OK.
- A Would you like to upgrade? message will appear. Click OK.
IMPORTANT: During the update process, do not disconnect the power/network cable from the projector, and do not turn on the projector using a remote commander, control panel keys, or various communication methods such as a network and RS-232C interface.
Notes:
- The ON/STANDBY indicator on the projector will blink orange during the update process.
- The update process takes about 3 minutes to complete. Please wait for the update to finish before using the projector.
- The update will start. The Setting page will appear again after the update finishes.
- When the update is complete, click the Information page. Check that the software version is correct.
Note: The firmware version was successful if the version number displayed is V1.11 Likewise, the ON/STANDBY indicator on the projector will light up red and the projector will enter Standby Mode.
Please note that the firmware update can take up to 3 minutes to complete.
Preparation
- You will need a USB flash storage device with the following specifications:
- USB 2.0-compatible
- FAT32 format (exFAT is not supported)
- Free space: 500MB or more
Download and transfer the update folder to your USB storage device
- Download the SONY_Z61_7EBD571D.zip file to a temporary or download directory on your computer.
- Please note this directory for reference.
- Connect a USB storage device to your computer.
- Unzip the downloaded zip file and rename it as SONY_Z61.bin, then transfer the unzipped file to the root directory of your USB storage device.
IMPORTANT: Do not use any other file name or copy the file to any other folder on the USB device. This update will not install successfully if the name of the file is not SONY_Z61.bin or if the file is not transferred to the root directory of the USB device.
Note: The root directory is the top directory in a file system.
- For a Windows operating system:
- Right-click the unzipped file.
- From the menu, click Send To.
- Click the drive that represents your USB device (for example, Removable Disk E:).
- The file will be copied onto your USB storage device.
- For a Mac OS X operating system:
- Drag and drop the unzipped file to the root folder of the USB storage device.
- Eject the USB storage device from your computer.
Check the settings of the projector
- Turn on the projector and display the menu screen.
- Select Connection/Power → ECO.
- Verify that the Energy saving settings are as follows:
- Standby Mode: Standard
- Direct power On: Off
Update the system software
IMPORTANT: During the update process, do not remove the USB device or disconnect the power cable from the projector.
Please read the installation instructions before downloading.
- Power off the projector and disconnect the power cable.
Note: Before unplugging the power cable, make sure the projector is in Standby Mode. - Before starting the update, make sure no other USB device is connected to the projector.
- Insert the USB storage device containing the file SONY_Z61.bin into the USB port of the projector (located near the USB symbol).
- Insert the power cable into the wall outlet while pressing the INPUT key on the projector. The update process will start automatically.
Note: The ON/STANDBY indicator will blink orange during the update, which takes about 3 minutes to complete. - Release the INPUT key.
- Once the update is complete, the ON/STANDBY indicator will light up red and the projector will enter Standby Mode.
- Press the [ / (On/Standby) ] key with the USB drive inserted.
Notes:
- The ON/STANDBY indicator will start flashing in green.
- When there is another update, the ON/STANDBY indicator will remain lit in red and the update will proceed automatically.
- When there is no additional update, the projector light will turn on.
- Disconnect the power cable from the projector.
- Remove the USB device.
Confirm the firmware version
- Turn on the projector.
- Display the menu screen.
On the Information menu, the firmware version will be displayed.
Note: If the version number is V1.11, the firmware update was successful.
