Information about the Android™ 10 software update for 2018 to 2020 Android TV™ models
IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check the Applicable Products and Categories section of this article before starting these steps.
A major software update is scheduled sometime around November of 2023 for your Android TV model. This article explains new and enhanced features and other changes provided with this update.
Menu and Interface Changes
- Settings menu changes: After the update, the Settings menus will be located on the left side of the screen, and the details of the selected content will be displayed on the right side.
In addition, some of the setting names and locations will be changed. For example, after the update, Device Preferences will be called System.
New & Enhanced Features
- Living Decor: Living Decor is a function that allows your TV to be used as a photo frame, clock, or to look like a part of an interior. Living Decor can be started from the list of apps.
- Timers & Clock: Alarms are added to the timer functions and will have the ability to display a clock on the television screen. Timers & Clock can be selected from the list of apps.
Note: For OLED models, in order to reduce image retention, the clock cannot be displayed all the time. - Improvement of TV Menu
- Easy registration of the favorite channels
On the remote control, and from the TV menu, use the up arrow button to easily register your favorite channels.
- Enabled adding Most watched in the TV menu and Guide
A Most watched option will be added to the TV menu and Guide, which will allow you to select the channel and display the program list for the channel.
Note: It will take a certain period of time for the Most watched to be added.
- Easy registration of the favorite channels
- Enabled TV box operation with the supplied TV remote control (Except A9F/Z9F series): The TV box setup option has been added to the Settings menu, under Channels & Inputs → External inputs. Completing the TV box setup operation will allow you to operate your TV box with the supplied TV remote control. In addition, TV tuner programs can now be displayed in the TV menu and Guide.
- Name change in LED indicator settings, and enable easily turn on or off Voice Function LED light: For TVs with a built-in MIC: The current Built-in MIC LED setting under the LED indicator is changed to Voice detection status. The menu path is as follows: Settings → System → LED indicator → Voice detection status
Note: For only X95H (55, 65, 75) and Z8H_ZH8 series: After the update, you can turn off the Voice Function LED by disabling Voice detection status.
A: Voice Function LED
- Enabled Sound Bar or Home Theater System control from your TV (only for HT-A7000/A5000/A3000/A9): If you have a Sound Bar (HT-A7000, HT-A5000, or HT-A3000) or Home Theater System (HT-A9), you will be able to use the following features.
- Control from TV Quick Settings (Except for HT-A3000): The setting items for the applicable Sound Bar or Home Theater System will be displayed in Quick Settings, and you can change the settings of the Sound Bar or Home Theater System from the TV.
- Easy Wi-Fi settings: You can easily set the Wi-Fi settings for the applicable Sound Bar or Home Theater System (the Wi-Fi settings for the Sound Bar or Home Theater System are copied from your TV so you don't have to set them yourself).
- Display Software update notifications: Software update notifications for the applicable Sound Bar or Home Theater System will appear on the TV screen.
- Control from TV Quick Settings (Except for HT-A3000): The setting items for the applicable Sound Bar or Home Theater System will be displayed in Quick Settings, and you can change the settings of the Sound Bar or Home Theater System from the TV.
- Supported Cangjie input method keyboard (for Hong Kong only): If the TV language is set to 中文 (粤語), you will be able to use the Cangjie input method keyboard after the update. To switch the Cangjie input method keyboard, after selecting Settings → System → Keyboard, select Multilingual keyboard under Current keyboard, and then select 倉頡 on the keyboard. (if 倉頡 is not displayed, select Language on the keyboard, and set 中文 (繁体字): 倉頡).

Added TV Control with Smart Speakers app: TV Control Setup with the Amazon Alexa app will be replaced with TV Control with Smart Speakers app. If you have already used the TV Control Setup with the Amazon Alexa app to control the TV: you will still be able to use it and it will coexist with the newly added TV Control with Smart Speakers app. If you want to link your TV to your Amazon Alexa for the first time: please use the TV Control with Smart Speakers app after the update.
Note: Availability of this function may vary depending on the country or region.
Out of functionality
- Restricted profile function: The Restricted profile in the Security & restrictions sections under Device Preferences will not be supported after the update. Please utilize the Parental controls function to enjoy safe apps and video streaming services. Follow the steps below to set the Parental controls:
On the remote control, press the (Quick Settings) button, then select Parental controls. You can set the following Parental controls features so that children can safely use the TV:- Restrict TV channels and use of external inputs
- Restrict the use of apps
- Restrict TV usage time
- BRAVIA Sync function: After the update, the Sync Menu will no longer be shown from Quick Settings. To operate BRAVIA Sync-compatible devices from the TV, on the remote control, use the (Input select) or 輸入選擇 (For Taiwan only) button to select the device you want to operate.
- Reduction of languages supported in Help Guide:
- Help Guides in Afrikaans, Swahili, and Zulu will no longer be supported. After the update, refer to the Help Guide in English.
